For most of the batsman, you would consider that batsman capabilities can be judged by their averages but it is not the case with everyone.
These players are called impact players. They can change the course of the game whenever they want. They don’t need numbers to boast about their capabilities. They can win games for their country single-handedly.
One such example is Yuvraj Singh:
Everyone knows about his batting capabilities and how he can just change the game and that is why he is known as an impact player. If you are chasing a big target than you must pray that these type of players gets to play at least 10–15 overs because these many overs are enough for them to change the direction of the match. His numbers are not that good but no other batsman have a talent of his level.
Some of his match-changing innings are:
1-Natwest series final
Yuvraj Singh partnership with Mohammad Kaif just changed the course of the match and after that, this happened. Saurav Ganguly fondly knows as DADA removed his shirt and waved off in The Lords Balcony. This is by sure one of the bravest act in cricketing history and is a hallmark of Saurav Ganguly now:-)
2-WC2011 Quarter Finals Against Australia
India was in a sense of bother when Mahendra Singh Dhoni got out to brett lee. But this man strung a partnership With Suresh Raina to take India over the line and thrashed Australia out of the WC.
3-India vs England T20 WC (South Africa)
Who can forget that night? He had a fight with Flintoff and what came after that was just a remarkable reply to both Flintoff and Maschernas. Dimitri Mascarenhas had hit Yuvraj Singh for 5 sixes in a one-day between India and England and then Yuvi gave them the taste of their own medicine.
Indians should thank Andrew Flintoff for this:
There are many more innings which can be listed here.
Also along with Yuvraj, there are many impact players such as Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, James Faulkner, Chris Morris etc.
These all players have match winning ability but just don’t go on their numbers.
