So the trophy has been won by India in a very fashionable manner and this series win will remain in the heart of Indians for a very very long Time.Such a Hard fought series it was. In this long season, no visiting team has looked as comfortable as Australian team was. They fought in each and every test match of the series and when they were down , it was their captain who took the responsibility to take the team over the line.
In the Final Test match at Dharamshala Ajinkya Rahane walked down for the toss and the Fans in Dharamshala realized that they are not going to see their hero play in the Final test match of the season. There were some surprises regarding the team combination as well.Australia was going in with an unchanged squad, even after being aware of the fact that the pitch has a lot in it for the seamers and they had an extra fast bowler in their team warming the bench. On the contrasting side, India opted for Kuldeep Yadav, the left arm chinaman in place of Virat Kohli which was also shocking because going against Australia with just 5 specialist batsman was also a big move.India also brought in B.Kumar in place of Ishant Sharma which was a justified selection.
India could have a dream start to the test match, had Karun Nair grabbed that catch of David Warner of the first ball of the match of B.kumar.After that Umesh Yadav gave the first breakthrough to India in form of Matt Renshaw. After that Australia took the charge and scored runs heavily to end the session at 131/1.In the next session, The Debutant turned it in favor of India and tore apart the Australian middle order by bagging three wickets and in the last session as well India bowled with discipline to bowl out Australia for 300.The highest scorer for Australia was Steve Smith. He added another hundred to his name.
On day 2 pressure was completely on India and they needed to post a good score to get a fine first innings lead because the had to bat last on this pitch. With some good scores from Pujara, Rahul and Jadeja India managed to get 251 on the board at the end of day 2. Rahul scored yet another half-century for team India but again failed to capitalize on it to make a big hundred.
In the first session on day, 3 Jadeja and Saha batted with some responsibility and India posted a score of 332 in their first innings.Australia came out to bat in the second session on day 3 but they were not aware of the fact that they will have to face some fierce bowling from both Umesh Yadav and B.kumar. Specially Umesh bowled with a lot of aggression which gave him the wickets of Warner and Renshaw. After the show of fast bowlers, it was the turn of spinners to steal the show. If it was one man show by Kuldeep in the first innings, now it was the turn of Ashwin and Jadeja to spin the web for one final time in the series. They took the responsibility and bowled out Australia for a mere 137.India needs to score 106 to win the match as well as the series.
On day4 India came out with an intent to finish the match as quickly as possible and even after losing the wickets of Vijay and Pujara in one over, India won the match comfortably with Rahul and Rahane being Not-Out.
Finally, India won the match by 8 wickets and the series to snatch the border Gavaskar trophy from Australia.Australia must feel that they performed exceptionally well in the series. They were not troubled by the spin bowling most of the time and they bowled beautifully as well.India should also be happy about their performance. Many people questioned about their ability to win if the pitch is not in their favor or if they do not win the toss.India dismissed all such allegations on them in this series and lost the toss 3 times but went on to win the series by 2–1.Also, the pitches made were not rank turners. Ravindra Jadeja got the man of the match as well as the man of the series which he fairly deserved as well.
Now the action moves to the much awaited IPL Season-10 which begins on 4th April.
