There was a time in cricket when there used to be a balance between bowling and batting. Then the T20’s came into the picture and the balance shifted towards the batsman. The pitches were made where batsman could score belter of runs and there was nothing for bowlers in it and especially for spin bowlers. Spin bowlers were hit out of the park every time they tried to flight the bowl and they were seriously scared to bowl within the powerplay. Batsman like Chris Gayle made the merry of spin bowlers in the T20’s.
In the spin department as well if we especially talk about the Leg spinners they were very less in the business. But in the recent IPL Season, their has been a revival of leg spinners. If you check the Table for purple cap holders the top 2 positions are held by leg spinners. Leaving those top 2 positions also there are spin bowlers who have impressed a lot and are making their mark in the season 10 of IPL.
3 bowlers who have caught everyone’s eye are:
Rashid Khan is at the top of the purple cap table in his debut season with brilliant performances in the 2 matches he has played for SRH. He was the driving factor in both the wins for SRH. Who would have expected the debutant leg-spinner to show such a performance and from the nation, he belong it becomes even more difficult to accept this fact. Afghanistan hardly plays professional cricket and the performance of this bowlers is remarkable in the limited chances he has got.
Imran tahir is the next bowler who is on the 2nd position in the list with the same number of wickets as Rashid Khan. He was unsold in the 1st round of the auction and after that disappointing auction even he would have lost all hopes to play in IPL, but there was something else written in his Fate. India’s premier spinner Ashwin got injured just before the tournament and Tahir was called as a replacement for him. It was lucky for him that he got a chance in the 1st match itself and he proved all the critics wrong. He was literally unplayable and Mumbai Batsman were made to dance to the tune of Imran Tahir. A lot would be expected from him in the coming matches.
Yuzvendra Chahal had a dream debut for India in the T20’s and he is certainly continuing that form in the Current IPL season. He is flighting the bowl very well and is proving to be a wicket taker bowler every time for RCB in crunch situations. Whenever the RCB bowlers are proving to be costly, the captain gives the bowl to Chahal and he puts up a performance which is up to the mark. Even his energy on the field is very high which is very important for RCB.
Such performances from the bowlers in a batsman friendly Environment lifts up the Moral of the other bowlers as well and it is very good that the balance of the game is shifting back from where it started.
